Do you really think if Ms. Simpson(hell, either one... it doesn't matter) looked like that fat chick from The Perfect Storm(good actress, btw), that we'd be talking about them at all? I seriously doubt it. Now i'm not saying you need looks to make it as a singer, many hideous performers have disproved that theory, but it will certainly help keep you famous... even when your songs are shit. All in all, Jessica may be as dumb as a bag of hammers, but hey, she's got great tits.
